How much did Manchester City pay to sign Joao Cancelo?
Manchester City paid a reported fee of £60million to sign Joao Cancelo from Juventus in 2019. The fee was made up of an initial £27million, plus a further £33million in potential add-ons. This was a club-record fee for the Premier League champions and made Cancelo the most expensive full-back in the world at the time.
Cancelo had spent one season at Juventus, having joined the Serie A champions in 2018 from Valencia. He had previously spent time at Benfica and Inter Milan and had also represented Portugal at international level.
The 25-year-old had a successful first season at Manchester City, contributing to the club's success in the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup, as well as making an appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals. Cancelo has become an integral part of Pep Guardiola's team and his performances have been praised by the manager.
