How much is Manchester City paying for Joao Cancelo?
Manchester City is reportedly paying Juventus a fee of £60 million for the transfer of Joao Cancelo. This fee is comprised of a £27 million initial fee and then a further £33 million in add-ons. The add-ons are reportedly based on the player's performance, international appearances and success with the club.
The transfer fee for Joao Cancelo is larger than most of Manchester City's other transfers this summer. The club had previously signed Rodri from Atletico Madrid for £63.3 million and Angelino from PSV Eindhoven for £5.3 million.
The fee for Joao Cancelo is also the second highest ever paid by Manchester City for a defender, after Eliaquim Mangala in 2014. Manchester City paid a reported fee of €44 million for the French centre-back, which at the time was a club record. The fee for Cancelo is a significant increase over the past record and shows Manchester City's commitment to strengthening their defence.
