When did Australian Survivor start airing?
Australian Survivor first premiered on the Nine Network in August of 2002. It was hosted by former Australian Idol host, Andrew O'Keefe and was based on the international Survivor format. The show proved to be a huge hit with viewers and quickly became one of the highest rating shows on Australian television. It ran for three seasons on Nine before the network decided to axe the show.
However, Australian Survivor was not gone for good. In 2015, it was announced that Network Ten had picked up the show and the fourth season would begin airing in 2016. This time, former Australian Idol judge, Jonathan LaPaglia was chosen to host the show. The fourth season was a huge success, with over 1.5 million viewers tuning in each week.
Since its return in 2016, Australian Survivor has gone from strength to strength with each season having higher ratings than the last. It has also spawned two spin-off series, Australian Survivor: Champions vs Contenders and Australian Survivor: All Stars. Its success has seen it become one of the most popular reality TV shows in Australia and it continues to be a hit with viewers.
