It starred Penny Marshall as Laverne DeFazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney, two friends and roommates who work as bottle-cappers in the fictitious Shotz Brewery in late 1950s Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The show was created by Garry Marshall and Lowell Ganz and was spun off from the hit ABC series Happy Days. The series followed the misadventures of Laverne and Shirley as they navigated life in Milwaukee and the blue-collar jobs they held. The show was a major success, becoming the number-one show in America during its third season. Laverne & Shirley received several awards and nominations, including seven Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe Award nominations. Laverne & Shirley also spawned an animated spin-off series, Laverne & Shirley in the Army, which aired from 1981 to 1983.
