Ashleigh Barty is an Australian professional tennis player who is currently ranked No. 1 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). She is the first Australian woman to achieve this ranking since Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1976. Barty has won nine singles titles on the WTA Tour, including the 2019 French Open and the 2020 Miami Open.
Barty was born in Ipswich, Queensland, on April 24, 1996. She has three siblings and is the daughter of Josie and Robert Barty. She started playing tennis at the age of four and was coached by Craig Tyzzer, the former coach of Lleyton Hewitt. In 2011, she became the youngest player to win the Australian Open Girls' Singles title and was the first Indigenous Australian to win a Grand Slam title.
Barty has won several awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2018, she was named the WTA's Most Improved Player of the Year and was also named the WTA's Player of the Year in 2019.
