Song Joong-ki married Song Hye-kyo on October 31, 2017. The couple was married for just over two years before filing for divorce on June 26, 2019.

The couple first met on the set of the 2016 drama Descendants of the Sun, and started dating shortly after the drama ended. They announced their engagement in July 2017.

The couple had a traditional Korean wedding at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul and held a wedding reception at the same venue three days later. They held a second wedding reception in Bali, Indonesia. After the divorce, Song Joong-ki stated that he and Song Hye-kyo would remain "as warm friends".
